French Dressing

This was one of my mother's favorite recipes.  She got it from my aunt who had worked in a restaurant where they made their own salad dressings.

1 cup oil
3/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup vinegar
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder

Put all ingredients in a blender.  Beat until smooth.  Makes 1 pint.  Store in refrigerator.

Viva La Chicken

This recipe has always been a family favorite.  It's quick to fix and doesn't include any of those hard to find ingredients!

Viva La Chicken
1 whole chicken, cooked and deboned (I often use 2 - 13 oz cans of Chunk Chicken Breast)
1 can cream of  mushroom soup
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 large jar of chili salsa
1/2 large onion, chopped
1# shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 doz. corn tortillas, buttered

Simmer chicken, soups, salsa and onion until tender.  Put layer of tortillas in bottom of 9 x 13 pan, then 1/2 of chicken mixture, then 1/2 of cheese.  Repeat layers.  Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour.  Enjoy!

Peanut Butter and Toffee Bars

This is a delicious recipe published in Victoria Classics Teatime Bliss.  I made them for a tea party I had last week and they were greatly enjoyed by all.

Makes 24 bars
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
3 large eggs, divided
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup peanut-butter baking chips
1 cup toffee bits, divided
Garnish:  sifted confectioners' sugar

1.  Preheat oven to 350.  Spray a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan with cooking spray with flour.
2.  In a medium bowl and using a mixer at medium speed, beat cake  mix, butter, and 1 egg until combined.  Press mixture into bottom of prepared pan.
3.  In a medium bowl and using a mixer at  medium speed, beat cream cheese until fluffy.  Add remaining 2 eggs and confectioners' sugar; beat until well combined.  Fold in peanut-butter chips and 1/2 cup toffee bits.
4.  Pour cream-cheese mixture over cake-mix mixture in pan.  Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup toffee bits on top.  Bake for 45 minutes.  Garnish with confectioners' sugar, if desired.

They are very rich so I think you could easily cut them into 48 bars for a tasty smaller morsel.

New Arrivals

Tend the Earth by Kate Spain

This group is a collection of items that I love to see in a beautiful garden. Architectural pieces, antique watering cans and bee skeps. Of course seeing butterflies, dragonflies and colorful birds add to the allure of nature's perfect setting. Flowers of every kind bring color, color, and more COLOR! Blues, greens and purples portray the calm, peaceful feeling of a garden with accents of red and yellow adding excitement and wonder. Nature's palette can be seen in every part of a beautiful garden.

There is just something about vintage, isn't there?  Something so special, so loved, and so very charming.  Lately, everywhere we look we find wonderful vintage inspired pieces.  Even modern quilts have a hint of that old vintage feel.  Combining the two, vintage modern is just the perfect combination, and is exactly what this line is all about. Vintage Modern is full of bold graphic prints, quirky vintage based prints, and a combination of the two in our very favorite color palette, lovely reds, aquas, pinks and greens mixed with a bit of soft gray.  Perfect for quilts, home dec, and especially remaking grandma's most favorite apron.

Redwork Renaissance - Just Arrived

Redwork Renaissance by Chloe's Closet

A perfect set of colors for some Valentine's Day projects!

Popularized in the late 1800s, Redwork took its name from the first colorfast embroidery floss known as Turkey Red and utilized simple outline stitches and designs in a variety of themes from animals and flowers to famous landmarks. Today it is enjoying a revival and this collection features a remarkable reproduction piece perfect for quilts, pillow covers, dish towels, napkins, laundry bags and other household items just like the originals were used for. Enhance your projects with coordinating prints and solids in red and vintage white.
